Jenny's Beard Of The Month - August

Meet Mr. August! Neil's beard could leave anyone speechless! Him and his beard reside in Jeromesville, Ohio. He works in a retail/wholesale greenhouse which he says is how his beard has the blonde color-the sun bleaches it out. It's apparent he has a green thumb for beard growing too! Prior to the greenhouse, Neil worked in a pharmaceutical testing lab. Neil and his beard love Indie Rock music, particularly folky bands. He also enjoys Triceratops and even has a Facebook page dedicated to them called Ten Thousand Triceratops! They give weekly drawing assignments of Triceratops doing different things. Sounds fun! Everyone draw one for Neil and his beard or perhaps a Triceratops WITH a beard! Mr. August, you're awesome!

neil-mohermanName: Neil Allen Moherman

Age: I am 28 years old

How long have you been growing your beard?: My beard has been growing for just over four and a half years, I've trimmed once or twice to round out the bottom, but other than that not much other than trimming off split ends. I had a beard that I kept trimmed short for a few years prior to growing it out.

Why are you growing your beard?: I started growing it out to go to the 2009 world competition that was in Alaska. That was my first competition, and after that I kind of fell in love with the bearding community and going to the events. Have been doing so ever since.

Have you won or placed in any competitions?: Yes i have, all in the Full Beard Natural category. I placed 3rd at the 2011 National Beard And Mustache Competition in Lancaster PA, and 3rd at the East Coast Beard competition in Philadelphia in 2012. I've placed 1st at the Charm City Beard and Moustache competition (Baltimore, 2010), Beards Mo's Anything Goes (Lansing MI, 2011), and Stage Coach Days (New Lebanon, OH 2012). I also Placed first, second and third in Full Beard Supernatural at the WPBMA Oil City competition in 2012.

How did you find out about the bearding community?: Kind of randomly. A friend of mine wanted to go to the world competition in Alaska, just for something random to do. He could only grow a musketeer, but still wanted to go, so he convinced me to let my beard grow out (this was a year or so prior to the event). He never ended up going, but I did. Mildly amusing having my first competition being on such a huge scale, I was overwhelmed, my beard was pretty small at that point. Its funny to look back and see my pictures from that event and see how much people/beards have changed over these couple years (there's even a few of Myk with an equally baby beard)!

Do you belong to any beard club?: I am a member of Beard Team Ohio.

Is shaving anywhere in your future(I hope not!)?: Not anywhere in the foreseeable future. Not sure I could be clean shaven, maybe a shorter beard someday, but never a bald face.

What is the best compliment your beard has received?: I get asked to be pet a lot, which i see as a compliment. The best (worst) comment ever made to me was from a random hillbilly at a bar who said to me after my girlfriend walked away for a minute "That beard must be a real panty dropper." I had no idea what to say to that.

Are there any competitions that we can find you at in the near future?: I plan on attending the GAFBO competition in Lansing this September, and Beard Team Ohio is putting on our 3rd annual competition on October 6th. Both events should be a great time (the latter being better).
