Beard Of The Month - May 2014 - Daniel Mitchell
Meet Mr. May, Daniel! A resident of Bushwick, Brooklyn and former chef turned dog walker/artist. You can find him listening to some of his favorites like Billie Holiday, INXS, The Pretenders, The Beatles and Tom Waits. During free time you can find Daniel and his beard trolling conservative sites, drinking rum, getting tattoos or watching his guilty pleasure, Judge Judy. He is also a fan of the NY Rangers as well as the NY Yankees. Daniel is also the proud owner of a pet rabbit names Tchotchke.

Name: Daniel Mitchell
Age: 35
How long have you been growing your beard?: The beard is now at 17 months, but the Moustache (recently trimmed about 2" of each side) is like, 5 years, I think.
Why are you growing your beard?: Mostly because I hate the way I look without facial hair, but also because I'm lazy. And I like competing.
Have you won or placed in any competitions?: Just recently won the East Coast championships in Philadelphia for goatee! Also won there two years ago but for styled moustache. Placed in a few others as well.
How did you find out about the bearding community?: My buddy Justin Lang took me to the NYC comp a few years back convincing me to compete in the moustache category. I immediately fell in love with what can only be described as the greatest and strangest subculture on earth.
Do you belong to any beard club?: Yes, I am a member and former president of the Gotham City Beard Alliance.
Is shaving anywhere in your future?: Shaving? No. No I do not have any such plans.
What is the best compliment your beard has received?: Best compliment? Hmmm. The bartender at East River Bar told me I had one of the nicest, well kept beards she's seen. That was nice. Oh, and I was recently chosen to be in a Bounty paper towels commercial because of my beard. That was good too. It should be out soon!
What have you gained from the bearding community?: Gained? Besides cirrhosis? I guess I'd have to say a lot of great friends with whom I've had amazing experiences with. And seeing places I'd probably never have gone.
Are there any competitions that we can find you at in the near future?: I'll certainly be at competitions in the future. Can't say exactly which ones but you'll see my hairy face eventually.
