jennys-botm-october

Mr. October is someone I know personally. Meet Matt! Matt and his beard reside in New Jersey and I think he has a quality beard and it should definitely start the competition circuit! He recently got laid off but is teaching bass in the meantime. Matt also LOVES playing bass and a variety of music. Bands he listens to regularly consist of The Black Keys, The Strokes, Death from Above 1979 and the Beatles just to name a few. He was playing in a band for a while that also ended recently and is currently in search of a new one. Mr. October and his beard also enjoy having tattoo work done. Read on to learn more about Mr. October!

MattName: Matt Serpineto

Age: 26

How long have you been growing your beard?: I would have to say I started growing my beard around 23. I had many styles when I was in college...Whaler, goatee, mustache, and beard; but recently I started growing a full natural more seriously...a year with out touching it.

Why are you growing your beard?: I really don't have a good reason why. I guess I just really enjoy the journey of it, and personally I hate shaving, it feels like a waste of time. Plus with all the free time not shaving I can work on my other projects.

Have you won or placed in any competitions?: No, I have not yet. I would like to put this beard to the test though.

How did you find out about the bearding community?: I would have to say that the way I found out about the bearding community was through the IFC show Whisker Wars.

Do you belong to any beard club?: No I am not part of a beard club. I would like to be part of the Gotham City Beard Alliance or something because my beard hero Myk O’Connor is a part of it and it would be cool to meet him but I don't know how to go about becoming a member. I am looking into becoming a member for life in any club.

Is shaving anywhere in your future(I hope not!)?: With tears in my eyes I have to say I recently trimmed it back for a job interview. Thank goodness for me I did not get the job so I will be growing back the length I lost plus more! It was mainly just a neat trim to tidy it up a bit.

What is the best compliment your beard has received?: I have had some really nice ones on this journey with the beard but the one that stands out the most would be being told it was very soft like satin and it smelled great because I do condition, and use a special brush to help maintain a nice healthy beard.

Are there any competitions that we can find you at in the near future?: As of now I have nothing planned because I had trimmed it back...I am trying to grow back what I lost but I can see myself in 2013 getting into it. I have many people interested in becoming my beard manager, and entering it into competitions and shows, so we'll see what the future brings!
