Running: So You're Just Starting Out?

running-intro

According to the source of all good information, Wikipedia, running is a means of terrestrial locomotion allowing humans and other animals to move rapidly on foot. I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to do something that sounds so awesome on the internet, but in case you don't, allow me to help. I am a runner who 365 days ago loathed running - every aspect of it except for the fact that you get so much free stuff when you sign up for a race (plus people tend to think you're some kind of uber athlete when you're out and about in a 5K shirt). I had lots of friends that ran and I'd support them at races, donate to the causes they ran for and would tell them when they shouldn't be running without a shirt on - I just wanted no parts of it.

It may come as a shock to you that one year later, I am now signed up to run two half marathons and so many 5Ks that I'm hoping for a tax credit on entry fees. I will run nearly 110 miles in races alone this year, and a whole lot more in training. So, why the reason for the change of heart? There are lots of reasons - every runner has a different purpose, to lose some weight, to get into better shape, to impress the ladies, to win a breakup, to make new friends, as a stress reliever, the list goes on. Running is free to start, but to do it right, it takes commitment and the right gear. That's where I'm going to come in. I haven't been a lifelong runner, I'm not even very fast, but in a few short months, I was able to become the go to person for a lot of my friends. I've tried out tons of running products; I've learned when you can cut corners, when you can save money & when you just have to suck it up and spend the big bucks.

So now that you somewhat know my background, feel free to ask me questions or tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about. We all started somewhere, or want to start & don't know how/can't get the motivation to put down the video game controller & hop on the treadmill. My job is to help motivate you and inform you of what gear and resources are out there. I have no intentions on judging you on what you're eating, how long you're spending in your running shoes or how fast you can run a mile, I'm a normal human just like you and I really like to run. I promise that my advice will be much less stringent (sorry, I'm a big fan of using SAT words) than a running magazine and much more fun to read, plus I'll try to test out the products you're curious about (or ask one of my male friends test them out if I'm not physically able to do so). So jump on the bandwagon for the latest fad, running, because marathon fever is sweeping the nation and you don't want to be the only one of your friends not walking around town with a marathon participant's bag on your back.
