Tequila Meatball Sandwiches

Does that meatball sandwich look good? Do you like tequila flavored things? Then here's a recipe for you. Just follow the steps below and you'll be all set. The first part is what you're going to need, and the second is how to do it. It's simple.

Stray Monkey Tequila Meatball Sandwiches

1.25 lbs. of Beef (Because one pound isn't enough)
8oz Mushrooms (Pick your favorite kind)
1 Egg
1 Small Onion
Parsley, Salt, Pepper, Basil, and Garlic to season
1.5 cups of Bread Crumbs (I like Italian style)
1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese

24 oz Jar of Sauce (I like locally made stuff, and you should really make your own - but you can use canned)
1/3 cup Sugar
1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese
Basil and Garlic to Season
2 shots of Tequila

1 loaf of Good Italian Bread (Get it fresh - not the bagged stuff)
Provolone Cheese
A little butter

Sauce (Start This First)
Combine the canned sauce, sugar, parmesan cheese, and shots of tequila in a pan and start it simmering on low heat (if you're gauge goes to 10, set it to around 2 or 3) - add as much or little basil and garlic as you want.

Meatballs (Do these steps as the sauce is cooking)

  1. Put the beef in a big bowl
  2. Chop up the mushrooms real fine (see picture below for a step by step guide) and add to the bowl
  3. Chop up the onions small and add to the bowl
  4. Beat the egg - add to the bowl
  5. Add the breadcrumbs - yep, still in the bowl
  6. Add the parsley, salt, pepper, basil, and garlic - make them as seasoned as you like
  7. Mix it all together WELL - get your hands dirty, and make sure it's all mixed through
  8. Put a little butter in a pan heated to medium and start putting golf ball sized meatballs inside of it after the butter melts
  9. Cook the meatballs (probably about 7-8 minutes per side depending on your stove)
    • Don't push down too hard on them or all the juices will fall out
    • Make sure you cut into one to make sure it's cooked all the way through
  10. You should be able to make about 18 meatballs from this


  1. While the meatballs are cooking take a loaf of Italian bread, cut it in half, and slice it down the middle - hollow out the extra bread to make a pocket in the loaf - add a little bit of sauce at the bottom of the hollowed out loaf
  2. Put the meatballs in the bread
  3. Add sauce on top of the meatballs, and provolone cheese on top of that (I like 3 slices)
  4. Put some sauce around the edge of the bun so it doesn't burn
  5. Put the hoagie under your oven's broiler for about 3 minutes. Watch it! This is the part where you can burn your sandwich. Keep the door open and wait for the cheese to get a little brown and bubble. But don't let the bread burn.
