Beard Of The Month - April 2013 - Jack Schifano

Spring is finally here and so is a great beardo for Mr. April! Meet Jack Schifano from Rochester, New York. Jack and his beard work in a nonprofit sector with children that have developmental disabilities, which he has done for the past 5 years now. Michelle is Jack's wife and his biggest beard and business supporter as well as the mother to their daughter Grace and soon to be son who is due in July!

Mr. Schifano and his beard rock out to a wide range of music including Slayer, Willie Nelson, Blood for Blood and Hank Williams Sr. Jack is also a lover of motorcycles and riding where his beard gets lots of air! He is the owner-operator, chief product tester/developer, and purveyor of fine moustache waxes for The Reverend Harrington's Moustache Wax, and that business is a family affair! His wife Michelle was the one who pushed him to create this product and his daughter loves helping place the product stickers on the tins! How cute!

He was inspired to create this product because of the things he learned were actually in the waxes that were on the market, therefore he made an all natural wax! Now Jack can't wait until his son enters into competitive bearding! We will keep our eye out for him years from now! Thanks Jack!

Jack Schifano and DaughterName: Jack Schifano

Age: 37

How long have you been growing your beard?: I have been growing my current beard for about a year and a half now. Before that, I had a mishap, at work with a client, and about 6" was ripped out of one side...and I had to cut the other side to even it out.

Why are you growing your beard?: As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to have a beard. To me, having a beard puts you in a whole different (better) social class. Even before I first knew of Whisker Wars, I knew that's what I wanted to do . And it was there, at the competitions and beard club events that we held, that I knew I belonged. To me, it means being somebody in a world of clean-shaven nobodies.

Have you won or placed in any competitions?: Not as of yet, but I'm planning for total beard domination (in the sometime near future).

How did you find out about the bearding community?: Years ago I stumbled upon a page, on MySpace, called The Rochester Beardsmen Society. I realized that it was something I needed to be a part of, then that was put on hold for a while. In 2010, I told two friends about it and we got together and made a FB page. We then met Trevor Cranmer, who was one of the guys still in the club from way back, and he helped us create what is The Rochester Beardsmen Society today.

Do you belong to any beard club?: I am the Sgt. At Arms in the Rochester Beardsmen Society in Rochester, NY.

Is shaving anywhere in your future(I hope not!)?: Like good friends of mine say south of the border: BARBA O MUERTE!!. And in English: BEARD OR DEATH!!

What is the best compliment your beard has received?: I brought my daughter to a local museum, last year, and a man in front of us was holding his son in his arms facing me. The child looked, and pointed, at me and said "daddy, look it's Jesus", the father turned around and said to his son; "no son that's not Jesus, that's just a man who happens to have a better beard than Jesus". He nodded, I smiled and went on about my day...elated.

What have you gained from the bearding community?: Friendship and camaraderie, not just here in Rochester; but around our country... and around the world.

Are there any competitions that we can find you at in the near future?: I'm glad you asked! We, The Rochester Beardsmen Society, are holding The 1st Northeast Regional Beard and Moustache Championships; here in Rochester, NY on August 17, 2013. Check out ROCbeardsmen.com for more info.
